As homeschooling families often one parent (sometimes the only parent) can feel a financial crunch within the family budget. As a teacher, parent and supporter it may seem as though there are not enough hours in the day to conceivably have time to do anything that would bring in a little extra money. As crazy as it sounds there are ways in which homeschooling parents can create some extra income while including their children in the process. It’s a win/win situation, the family becomes a little more solvent, they get to spend time together and the kids learn the basics of business management hands on.Â
So what are some of the options for homeschoolers looking to make some extra money? Well there are numerous ways and the sky is the limit as far as creativity goes:
- Create Custom Crafts: Registering for several craft shows in your area can be quite lucrative. Involving the kids in purchasing and pricing your products will teach them about profit margins and budgeting. The money earned can be used to supplement the families income or to put towards a trip or special event.Â
- Become a Product Representative: Becoming a representative for a company such as Avon or Regal eliminates some of the leg work and allows a parent to carry an established product line often at a low start-up cost. The start-up kits often come with promotional materials and are basically turnkey operations.
- Blogging: Many parents are making a handsome sum of money writting online blogs and articles. It is important to realize the gain from this method is not immeadiate and it does take some time and research to set up, but the advantage is the low cost and the ability to work strictly from home.
- Become a Virtual Assistant: It is possible to earn a regular salary working for mainstream companies from home. Companies often hire virtual assistants to type correspondence, arrange travel plans and book meetings. It is often cheaper for them to share one work at home assistant than it is to hire one who works only in their office.Â
Overall there are many ways a homeschooling parent can supplement their income while still working to provide their children with what they believe to be a superior education. These are simply four of many methods and the possibilities are endless. Whatever your endeavour may be, it is almost always more enjoyable when you can involve the entire family!

Karrie
